Aizawl District has a monolithic demographic profile in terms of ethno-religious and linguistic parameters. The inhabitants of the District are predominantly Mizo, and thus, Mizo is the most widely spoken language in the District. However, being the hub of trade and commerce in the state, Aizawl District can boast of a relatively cosmopolitan demography as there is a significant minority of smaller ethnic groups like the Marwaris, Bengalis, Chakmas, Meiteis, etc.. Christianity accounts for 94.7 % of the people living in the District, and there are smaller communities like Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains.
